About This Training

For the clients whose processing loops, stalls, or polarizes

You’ve been trained in EMDR. You know the protocol. And yet there are clients whose processing loops, stalls, or polarizes — session after session — and standard interweaves haven’t moved it. This training is for those clients.

The Two-Handed Interweave, developed by Robbie Shapiro, LICSW, is a distinctly somatic and bilateral intervention that invites clients to hold two conflicting states simultaneously — one in each hand — while BLS activates the integration that words alone couldn’t reach. It’s used with looping, blocking beliefs, parts conflict, developmental trauma, and dissociative presentations, and it adapts across a remarkable range of populations with the right clinical knowledge.

In this 3-hour advanced training, you’ll build a complete clinical command of the technique — from its theoretical grounding in the AIP model, to step-by-step procedural instruction, to real-world case illustrations across four distinct client presentations. You’ll also leave with concrete adaptations for children and adolescents, foster care and family conflict settings, ADHD, ASD, IDD, and learning differences — not as an afterthought, but as a central part of the curriculum.

Learning Objectives

What you’ll be able to do after this training

  • Articulate the theoretical basis of the Two-Handed Interweave within the AIP model and what makes it distinctly different from a cognitive interweave
  • Execute the complete procedural sequence step by step — from anchoring both hands to tracking the integration moment to returning to standard protocol
  • Identify what goes in each hand for any given client, including when one hand isn’t yet accessible
  • Apply the technique to complex trauma presentations: looping, blocking beliefs, structural dissociation, developmental and attachment trauma, and ego state / parts-informed presentations
  • Adapt the technique for children, adolescents, youth in foster care, ADHD, ASD, IDD, and learning differences
  • Analyze four detailed case vignettes spanning child, adolescent foster care, autistic adult, and complex trauma adult presentations
  • Design your first clinical application of the technique with a current client through a guided integration exercise

About the Presenter

James Nee Hundley, LCSW, Certified EMDR Therapist, EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training

James is the founder of Turtle Shell Therapy Institute and a Certified EMDR Therapist who built his clinical and teaching practice around the populations most often left out of standard EMDR adaptation conversations — children in foster care, autistic adults, clinically complex trauma presentations, and clients with intellectual and developmental differences.

He maintains a virtual private practice in Colorado specializing in trauma, attachment-focused EMDR, and neurodivergent clients, and serves as the Clinical Services Supervisor at a community behavioral health PASA where the Two-Handed Interweave is part of his daily clinical toolkit.

James developed this training out of years of clinical necessity. The mission of his teaching is to give clinicians more than theory — specific, population-aware, immediately applicable clinical tools.
